As mentioned in the previous post, strong winds gave us a nice push across the Vineyard Sound to Hyannis on lower Cape Cod. After the stress of “shocking docking” passed, we enjoyed a few days in this port town.<\/p>

Hyannis is the second largest fishing port on Cape Cod and the main terminal for ferries connecting the mainland to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. Ferries come and go almost every half hour.<\/p>

Nearby Hyannisport was the home to the Kennedy family “compound” owned by Joseph Kennedy, and where President John Kennedy and Senators Robert and Ted Kennedy grew up.<\/p>

After some light maintenance and laundry, Sandy visited the town and, in particular, the Kennedy Museum, while Dan did some provisioning and visited the local West Marine (for a change) for some supplies.<\/p>

The highlight of our stay in Hyannis was a visit by Dan’s Uncle Larry, Aunt Joan and Cousin Janna. They live near Boston but happened to be on the Lower Cape visiting family. Well, this wasn’t purely a coincidence. It was the reason we sailed to Hyannis.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Larry, a much published author, was the person who suggested Dan write an article for a sailing magazine based on last year’s cruise from Rochester, New York to Portland, Maine via Canada. He provided invaluable coaching and editing, leading to an article<\/a> <\/span>being published in the May edition of\u00a0Cruising World<\/em>. Since then, we promised to get together when we reached Massachusetts on this year’s cruise.<\/p>

We went for a short day sail, and enjoyed catching up after too many years.<\/p>

Sandy and Dan enjoyed an evening walk along the harbor, and watched fishing boat “Seafox” offload a bounty of Quahogs that it had fished that day.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
