Made the short 10 nautical mile hop from Brockville to Prescott to get closer to the Iroquois lock for the following morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those of you who sail on Lake Ontario have undoubtedly heard “Prescott Coast Guard Radio” broadcasts on the VHF. Well, this sleepy little town is where all that noise comes from from! Needless to say, the tallest structure around is the radio antenna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The river current is starting to pick up with 2-3 knots. This makes for faster passages, but it takes some getting used to. Good practice for the 6+ knots of current we can expect towards Montreal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sandra S. Lawn Marina is a surprisingly pretty, friendly and active community with a lot going on, such as dog swimming and retrieving contests and an award winning gelato ice cream stand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most of the boaters in Prescott are from neighboring Qu\u00e9bec. There was a lot of partying going on on the eve of Canada Day! After getting to know the town, we met Jon and Cheri for an ap\u00e9ritif that lasted well into the evening. We decided that, in the summer, dinner isn’t needed after a filling ap\u00e9ritif (like Cheri’s charcuterie board). We love the cruising lifestyle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
