They tell you about the place and the people. Some are mere shacks, with a small counter and a few post office boxes, while others are proper buildings with full postal services.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Often the local postmaster is also the mayor, the sheriff, the school teacher or a lobsterman, in addition to his or her postal responsibilities. We&#8217;ve seen postmasters tending to the garden in front of the building and suspect we&#8217;d see the same person removing snow in the winter.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Everyone seems to know everyone and all are on a first-name basis.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Even more telling is that the small post offices are often left open or unlocked when the postmaster is attending to other business, as is true of public libraries and other municipal facilities.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This is a place where time stands still&#8230; in a good way.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fa7b69e e-flex
