We left Sackets Harbor at 0900 with our two escorts, Resurgence and Dolce Vita VII. Resurgence, satisfied that we were really leaving town, handed us off to Dolce Vita VII and headed West toward the Bay of Quinte.
There were repeated warnings of severe storms all around us, but the radar showed we had a safe passage so we went for it and it turned out to be a very nice sail up the eastern end of Lake Ontario and East into the Saint Lawrence Seaway and the 1000 Islands.
After dodging the shoals and rocks that are characteristic of the 1000 Islands, we anchored in one our favorite coves, Picton Island, across from Clayton, NY. It’s full of young party boats during the day, drinking and playing, but they all go home at dusk, leaving a peaceful cove to a few cruisers and loons to settle in for the night.
