Putting America Behind Us

Henry Thoreau said about the Cape Cod National Seashore, “A man may stand there and put all America behind him.”

Along with Didier and Sandrine, we spent a perfect day biking through the Province Lands and the Cape Cod National Seashore. The Province Lands are a large area of protected sand dunes, salt marshes, beaches, pine forest and lily ponds. And the Cape Cod National Seashore includes miles of untrodden beach along the ocean side of the Outer Cape.

As David Thoreau, we forgot about the rest of America (and the rest of the world) for a while. The weather was sunny and warm, so we took a quick swim in the generally cold North Atlantic. And, of course, we were visited by curious seals a few yards off the beach.

The day was capped off by a fun dinner at a Caribbean style restaurant, the Calypso Cove, on a mezzanine overlooking the constant flow of people on Provincetown’s Commercial Street. It seemed like the small crowd in this cute restaurant was one group as the conversations easily overflowed from one table to the next.

We returned to Fregata for an early night. It was a tiring day and we have a 0600 departure tomorrow as we head back to Maine, which we’re excited to show to our guests.

  1. Provincetown is probably my favorite place in the world to visit. It is like stepping into another world. Looking forward to visiting you in Maine

  3. What a great trip. You’ve been blessed by a good many guests this season too. Pleasant journeys.

  4. I really like to follow your adventures in this season, to look at your beautiful pictures and to read the text of your articles.
One of them made me particularly smile, where we can see the diver Dan ready to clear the trap line, but this time with his suite in contrast of last year.

I do have one small technical point, though: I always read posts from my RSS feed. I was very surprised to see a video attached to this article in the feed — a pretty huge one for my little ADSL line, by the way — but there was no video in the post itself. How can that be possible? Did you remove the video from the post afterwards? Or is there a glitch in certain circumstances between the post content and the feed summary?

It’s a shame, because the metallic buoy with a bell inside the structure and four different clappers to produce four notes is really special! I’m glad I didn’t miss it.

I wish you for both of you a very good end of summer and hope to see you again in Geneva in the autumn.
