Tenants Harbor is a working lobster fishing town that offers a safe harbor to break up a trip from the Portland area to points Northeast.
In the 19th century, “coasters” were built here. These boats were designed to carry ice, stone, lime and lumber until replaced by steamships and railroads. The only remnants of this time is an historical sail loft.
Today, lobster boats replace coasters and fill the harbor at moorings. There are also working lobster piers where the catch is offloaded, boats are fueled and traps are stored.
We left Tenants Harbor in thick fog and 50º F (10º C), heading back to Mount Desert Island for one last visit to the Acadia National Park area. I guess summer’s coming to an end.

It’s a pity, here also the summer is ending and I guess you will soon go back to Portland for the bad season.
Many thanks for all your posts and beautiful photos, and I will be glad to follow your next adventures in 2026.
BTW I bet your fingers were already greedy when you wanted to type “were desinged to carry” 😉
I hope to see you at the traditional hunting meal in GVA.
Sounds like a perfect ending to a great season of sailing for you both. Always enjoy your post and the beautiful pictures. It makes us feel like we’re almost there with you. Of course we were for part of the trip and we’re so appreciative of being two of your 11 guest. We have special memories and can understand why you both are sad to leave Maine and most of all Fregata . Welcome back home to Pittsford and the Buffalo Bills season. At least we have a little something else to look forward to this fall. Thanks again for letting us share in your sailing adventure. Best wishes, Donna.
