What are the odds? It started in Camden, where we met Andrew and Tisha, neighbors from Falmouth, cruising on their converted lobster boat. We enjoyed a nice dinner with them in the harbor.
While in Southwest Harbor, our neighbor from down the street, Marjorie, was on her sailboat on the same dock. We had a nice conversation.
Following that, we anchored in a remote bay called Orcutt Harbor. The following morning, I was below and I heard Sandy talking to people on a motorboat that approached us. It turned out to be our next door neighbors, Oscar and Charlotte, and other family members of theirs. Their parents own a “camp” (Mainespeak for a summer home) overlooking the anchorage. They were having their annual family reunion. They invited us to join them for an apéritif.
The next day, we met up again on Eagle Island, where thge local community was holding its annual open house to celebrate an historical lighthouse, and raise funds for its upkeep.
And on Tuesday, we met up with Betsy and Paul, our other next door neighbors, on the other side at Warren Island, where we hiked, had a nice chat, and met for coffee the following morning!
Betsy is fond of saying that Maine is just one big small town. Well, she’s right… except in this case, it’s a floating town.
