Florida

St. Augustine

Great seafood, friendly staff, view of the Intracoastal Waterway.

Fernandina

A local sandwich and barbecue place with regional specialties and a nice courtyard.

Georgia

Brunswick

Presumably a real apothocary in its day, the only medications being dispensed are cocktails. The specialty is the Sunday Dinner. You get a choice of a main dish, three sides and desert, all for $13.95. And despite the price, it’s delicious!

South Carolina

HIlton Head

This is one of several restaurants owned by the Hudson family, known over the years for oyster farming and shrimping. Benny’s is upscale with great seafood and deck, overlooking the Port Royal Sound (don’t niss the sunsets) with live music.

HIlton Head

Another Hudson property, but downscale with a tiki-bar feel, and a great place to relax with a drink and some coconut shrimp appetizers.

Charleston

A brick and wood interior and friendly staff make for a pleasant atmosphere in which to enjoy oysters and seafood. We recommend the shrimp and grits, a local speciality with a little kick.

Simple Élégance

We loved Chez Nous! A couple of blocks off the beaten path, in a single family home, Chez Nous feels like you are going to your favorite cousin’s house for dinner. There are only seven items on the handwritten menu: two starters, two entrées and two desserts. The menu changes daily and is posted on Instagram by noon. The seven dishes are either French, Italian or Spanish and  made with simple, fresh ingredients impeccably prepared.  And the service was excellent as well. It seemed like the wait staff from the greeter to the servers to the management were truly happy we were there. As we were leaving each took the time to say goodbye in a natural and heartfelt way. We felt like we were part of the family.

North Carolina

Southport

You may be surpised to see a sandwich shop in a Walmart strip mall on this list. But Eric’s was a great experience because of the “southern hospitality”. When we walked in, we felt the the royal family had just embarked. Everyone from the cahier to the cooks addressed as as sir, madam, Mr. Dan or Ms. Sandy. The BLT sandwiches were good too!

Wrightsville Beach

This restaurant has a deck overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway. Try the local specialties such as shrip n’ grits or mahi-mahi.

Beaufort

In his cosy restaurant a few blocks from the waterfront, executive chef Jason prepares delicious meals combining local ingredients with a French twist.

Beaufort

One of our favorites. This TexMex restaurant is casual, fast and the service is outstanding. Before you know you need something, it’s there. The cocktail menu features hundreds of colorful variations of margaritas and some you’ve never heard of. Some are servied in 90 oz glasses! The wide variety of Tex Mex dishes won’t leave you hungry. You will take home a doggy bag and enjoy it for lunch the next day (and maybe the one after that). Good atmosphere spiced with salsa music in the background.

Virginia

Norfolk

In what appears to be an old bank, this sushi bar was surprisingly good with fast service and very reasonable prices. If you order the spicy edamame, make sure to ask for extra napkins!

Maryland

Oxford

The claim that it’s Maryland’s best ice cream is true! They’ll pack homemade ice cream to go.

St. Michaels

A pleasant place for a sandwich or salad. Good crab cakes.

Annapolis

For a more upscale dinner on a special occasion, this is the place. Everything is cool, from the architecutre to the location overlooking Annapolis Harbor. It has a very modern, European feel with outstanding, well-presented dishes from land and sea. Very professional staff.

Annapolis

An unpretentious, but delicious sushi restaurant, minutes from the water. Reasonable prices. Great service.

New York

New York City

A family favorite. With resh ingredients imported directly from Italy and real Italian pizzaoli at the oven, this restaurant serves the most authentic Napolitan pizzas in North America. Not opinion… fact.

Connecticut

Mystic

Modern wood interior is uncluttered but warm. The open kitchen is visible as you enter. Run by two award-winning chefs, it serves delicious, original seafood dishes as well as a full raw bar and other dishes. Highly recommended.

Rhode Island

Newport

Typical New England lobster shack with delicious clam chowder and lobster rolls enjoyed on picnic tables overlooking Newport Harbor.

Massachusetts

Edgartown (Martha's Vineyard)

On a deck overlooking one of the nicest harbors we’ve seen so far, this favorite spot offers delicious clam chowder and other localseafood specialties. Don’t be line intimidated by the line. Go straight upstairs. The deck has lots of room and fast turnover.

Hyannis

Good basic New England seafood cuisine overlooking the busy Hyannis Harbor.

Nantucket

Friendly staff. Delicious clam chowder and lobster rolls.

Provincetown

Here for half a century or more, this iconic restaurant near MacMillan Pier is as good as it is kitchy. Recommend a bucket of steamers (if you like them).

Provincetown

Stop here for a coffee and breakfast sandwich, right at the head of the marina wharf. Picnic tables on the beach. Very chill.

New Hampshire

Portsmouth

Very cool restaurant offering small, tapas-like dishes or main courses. Original recipes inspired by local ingredients. In a narrow, brick and wood building on the harbor.

Portsmouth

Delicious, home-made, natural ice cream. In our top 5!

Maine

Portland

Modern twist on local cuisine, in a cool, brick lined atmosphere with very professional staff.

Boothbay Harbor

A short dinghy ride from downtown, this lobster shack is in a pittoresque cove. Delicious food, friendly staff and idyllic setting. Watch lobster boats unload while you enjoy lunch on the dock.

Boothbay Harbor

The quintessential Maine lobster shack, situated on a working lobster wharf. Order at the window and sit at a picnic table overlooking Boothbay Harbor. Live music most days.

Camden

Another top contender in our ice cream ranking. One of the best cherry (Dan’s favorite) ice creams on the east coast
