Friends and Fish

Our new friend Tom gave Alex the belated birthday present of a lifetime… a day fishing off the Carolina coast.

Our new friend Tom and his friend Brent invited Alex for a day of fishing off the coast. This was a dream come true for Alex.

Meanwhile, Sandy and Dan moved Fregata to Beaufort to get her ready for the passage around the Outer Banks.

Here we met a Canadian/Italian couple, Réjean and Fiora, with quite a story. Their prior sailboat caught fire at sea and sunk! This was a scary story but fortunately, they escaped without a scratch, until the following week when Fiora fell off a bicycle and broke her wrist. But they are back at it, sailing the world in their new sailboat, an Amel 54, the predecessor of the Amel 50. This is a good reminder to all sailors of the importance of having and practicing emergency plans. They knew what to do, and that saved them.

Back to Alex, his day of fishing was capped off by having Tom, Brent, another friend Duane and Sophie the dog aboard Fregata to tell us about their day (and the big one that got away), followed by a dinner to belatedly celebrate Alex’s 30th birthday.

The next day, we met up with Kyle and Dani, former colleagues from Rochester who moved to North Carolina a few years ago.

Looks like Tom will join us for our passage around the Outer Banks and we’re looking forward to spending time together.

Departure for our overnight passage to Virginia planned Saturday. Stay tuned!
